Vaulters from East Canton, Fairless, Jackson and Tuslaw will compete at the state track and field championships Friday and Saturday after strong regional performances.
Imagine a sport where your only equipment is a pole more than twice your height.
When everything goes right, you clear a bar 10-15 feet in the air and come tumbling down in heap onto a cushioned mat. When everything doesn’t go right, you might be falling onto a decidedly less comfortable surface.
If none of that sounded appealing, you’re like most people. If it sounded fun, you’re probably a pole vaulter.
Four Stark County daredevils — Fairless’ Brady Wickham, Jackson’s Austin Biss, Tuslaw’s Andrew Wenzel and East Canton’s Alexis Pennell — will compete at the state championship meet this weekend, hoping to stand on the podium in Columbus.
