Maddy Smith, a recent Ottawa High School graduate, has announced her plans to attend Augustana this fall and continue her track & field career as a member of coach David Thompson’s Vikings. Smith, a four-year track and field letterwinner for the Lady Pirates and The Times 2019 Female Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Year, captured the IHSA Class 3A state pole vault title this past spring, clearing a personal-best 11 feet, 9 inches in Charleston. She had earlier claimed the Moline 3A Sectional championship with a vault of 11-6. Maddy is the daughter of Sean and Kristy Smith, of Marseilles, and is considering an Augustana major in kinesiology.Smith will be joining a Viking track and field program that has won 12 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin outdoor championships since 1988.
