STATE TRACK & FIELD: Dodgeland’s Klentz, Waupun’s Vis make podium in boys pole vault

LA CROSSE — At the WIAA state track and field championships last year, Dalton Klentz flopped — literally.

The talented Dodgeland pole vaulter was seeded as a contender to medal but failed to clear a height and finished dead last in the 15-individual field.

He made amends Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

This time, not only did he get over, the senior got over four times, the last time at 13 feet, 6 inches to make it on the podium by finishing fourth in Division 3 boys competition.

After clearing 12-0, 12-6 and 13-0, Klentz passed at 13-3 and instead jumped back in at 13-6. He missed on his first two tries but cleared the third time, thus claiming his medal.
