When Eliza McCartney stormed to a stunning bronze at the Rio Olympics, it seemed too good to be true. We had a genuine pole vaulting superstar on our hands. Nothing has changed in that regard, but now New Zealand is blessed with depth as Olivia McTaggart emerges as a genuine rival to McCartney’s pole vault throne. The 18-year-old was born nine days into the new millennium, and initially showed promise in gymnastics.
