OLYMPIC hopeful Holly Bleasdale made sure students were in pole position when she popped into St Helens for a motivational visit.
Team GB’s Holly has just smashed the British pole vault record at the Olympic Trials sailing over 4.71 metres and was at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Community College to run an event with students to encourage and nurture interest in sport and the Olympics.
Holly, from Preston, talked about training, nutrition and mindset before running a practical workshop on technique for pole vaulting at the Berrys Lane school.
Teacher Nicola Branch told the Star: “It was part of the Olympic countdown we have been running, which is a school-wide competition in which each form group represents a country and competes for points in a number of events.
“We have recently finished the dance competition. We ran a football competition last year, a marathon completed in groups, and our ‘Sacred Time’ which focused on Olympic values and how to implement them in our day-to-day lives.
“The scores are kept up to date on our medal table so the students can see where their country stands in the run up to the Olympics.”
St Cuthberts are also holding a Gold Challenge in which teachers are completing a number of Olympics events with students running 2012km and keeping track of their progress individually.
