The pole vault is often in a world of its own.
At the high school level in 2018, there was Mondo Duplantis, who was vaulting at world-caliber levels and setting world junior records over 19 feet. There was Missourian KC Lightfoot, who had one of the best seasons of all-time, clearing 18 feet in seven straight competitions at one point.
Over the course of the 2018 season, five boys broke 18 feet and seven more broke 17. It was, without debate, the greatest high school pole vault season in history.
