On 18 November, Rio de Janeiro’s city government announced that three more venues for next summer’s Olympic Games have been completed.
The Future Arena, which will host will host handball during the Olympic Games and goalball during the Paralympic Games, the Olympic Golf Course and the Whitewater Stadium, which will stage the canoe slalom events, have all now been declared 100 per cent competition ready.
All three venues will have a key part to play in Rio’s post-Games legacy vision. The Future Arena will be dismantled and the materials used to construct four public schools in the city, while the Whitewater Stadium will form part of a new giant public leisure facility. Meanwhile, the golf course, which is set to host the first golf tournament at the Olympic Games for 112 years, will be made available for public use as part of a push to promote the sport in Brazil.
