Tigers compete at California meets

Douglas High’s standout pole vaulters turned in yet another impressive performance Saturday at the Arcadia Invitational in Arcadia, Calif.

Senior Nick Maestretti, who has already signed a letter of intent with Kansas, took fifth in the invitational division of the pole vault with a height of 15 feet, 0.75 inches.

Senior Amanda Brazeau was ninth in the invitational division for girls’ pole vault with a height of 11-7.

The Arcadia meet featured more than 300 teams from all over the West Coast and Canada.

As a whole, the Douglas track team’s numbers were heavily depleted due to spring break, but the Lady Tigers sent five athletes to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.

The 4×400 relay squad of Aspen Abbott, Olivia Abbott, Sadie Gastelum and Cara Dunkelman finished second in the Section I finales with a time of 4:14.00.

The Tiger 4×800 relay team of Aspen Abbott, Sadie Gastelum, Lindsey Adams and Cara Dunkelman finished ninth in the Section I finals with a time of 9:58.04.

“They were just a couple seconds off their best time of the year,” Douglas coach Jim Abbott said. “They ran well.”

Douglas next competes in the Thunder Invitational in Rocklin, Calif., this weekend.
