Track and Field Senior Alexis Paine Earns Capital One Academic All-American Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – All-American and Alabama record holder Alexis Paine has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors it was announced Thursday.

“We’re very proud of everything Alexis has contribute to our program both on the track and in the classroom,” UA head coach Dan Waters said. “I think this latest honor highlights the level of excellence she has achieved in both areas of her collegiate career.”

Paine, who carries a 3.95 grade point average for her career while majoring in English, is the 2013 Southeastern Conference Indoor Pole Vault Champion and earned All-American honors in the event during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

In addition to setting the school indoor and outdoor records in the pole vault, she also owns every mark on Alabama’s all-time top-10 list when it comes to the pole vault.

A senator in the Alabama Student Government Association, the Mobile, Ala., native has been inducted into the Mortar Board honor society and is a four-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Paine and senior distance runner Austin Duckworth were named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV Division I Track & Field/Cross Country First Team earlier this season.

A member of Alabama’s 2008 and 2009 SEC cross country championship teams, Duckworth was named Phi Beta Kappa and is a four-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native earned a degree in history with a 3.93 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in history.
