Track and field: Wright brings gold from Jr. Olympics

Not too long ago, Sam Wright sat on a field in Elk Grove, shoulders slumped, injured hamstring aching, having missed a return trip to the CIF State Track and Field Championships for pole vault by three inches.

Last weekend, Wright proved he’s back to full form by winning the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics pole vault for the 15-16-year-old age group, representing Lodi Track Club at the University of Kansas. He nailed the 4.75-meter height (15 feet, 7 inches) on his second attempt, having already won the event with a 4.6-meter (15-1) vault earlier.
