Mounds View enjoyed a bonanza of medals at the state track meet this past weekend.
Joel Smith and Julia Fixsen captured gold medals, while Leah Klein, Nick Sharma, Calvin Ciganik and Emma Bangert took home silvers, and both the boys and girls teams finished fourth, at Hamline.
Fixsen, a sophomore, won pole vault Saturday despite being limited to two attempts due to a foot injury. She scaled 11-6 in her second attempt and didn’t need to continue as runner-up Allison Weiker of Roseville Area topped out at 10-3. Fixsen entered the state meet leading the track honor roll in both pole vault with 13-1 and high jump with 5-8 but had to skip high jump Friday due to the stress reaction injury to her fight foot. She was runner-up at state in both events last year.
