Trinity-Byrnes sophomore wins state championship, breaks school record

DARLINGTON, S.C. — After winning his third consecutive SCISA state championship for pole vault, sophomore Luke Baker has high hopes for next year’s track and field season.

Baker, who has been a member of Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School’s track and field team for four years, broke the school record with a 12-foot vault in the state championship meet.

Baker said he hopes to break the SCISA 2A state record of 13 feet, 2½ inches during the 2019 season. Over the past four years of pole vaulting, Baker said, he has improved a foot each year.
