Trio Makes Their Mark in the Opening Weekend

LOS ANGELES – After just one weekend of competition the UCLA track and field team has made its mark. Three Bruin standouts posted marks that rank in the top-20 at the collegiate level.

Leading the way for UCLA is All-American Mike Woepse in the pole vault. His clearance of 17-8.50 (5.40m) ranks seventh in the nation overall.

Following Woepse is distance ace Nick Hartle who posted a 1:50.26 in the 800m. That time run in altitude in Flagstaff, Ariz., is ranked 14th fastest overall and 13th at the division I level.

Nicholas Scarvelis uncorked the shot 61-2.75 (18.66m) in his season debut to rank 20th overall and 18th against division I competition.

UCLA will be split this weekend as the Bruins head to the New Mexico Team Invitational and the UW Invitational. Albuquerque will serve as the host site for the NCAA Indoor Championships while the UW Invitational will be held in Seattle, Wash.
