Sauquoit’s W. Slater Costantine would like to end his first indoor track and field season as the Section III record holder in the pole vault.

It’s a lofty goal, for sure – 15 feet, 6 inches is the mark he has to top – but he already has cleared 15 feet this season.

Oh yeah, and if you ask one of his coaches, there’s plenty of upside.

“Absolutely, without a doubt,” Jerry Tine said of Costantine’s record-setting chances. “He’s got an unlimited ceiling. He’s not at the end of his rope.”

Tine, a former pole vaulter at Whitesboro High School and Cortland State, is coaching Thomas R. Proctor High School’s Raiders as well as Costantine – the only member of Sauquoit Valley Central’s indoor track and field team.
