Another week, another honor for LSU pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis.
Duplantis was named Tuesday the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division I athlete of the week for his record-setting performance Saturday at the Southeastern Conference championships.
It’s the second time in the past three weeks that Duplantis has been named the athlete of the week by the USTFCCCA.
With LSU trying to claim its first SEC outdoor title in 29 years, the second-ranked Tigers took a late lead in the competition when Duplantis won the vault with a collegiate-record leap of 19 feet, 8¼ inches.
After giving his team a 97-91 lead over Florida, LSU closed it out when the 4×400-meter relay team finished second in the meet’s final event to nail down the Tigers’ first victory at the SEC outdoor meet since 1990.
