Russ Johnson, who spent 12 seasons mentoring Tennessee pole vaulters to great heights as a volunteer assistant, has been hired by Georgia’s track and field staff.

An elite pole vaulter at UT, Johnson won the SEC indoor championship in 1998. His mark of 18 feet, 6 1/2 inches ranks third on the Vols’ all-time list behind Jake Blankenship and collegiate record-holder Lawrence Johnson.
