OGDEN — Utah Valley freshman distance runner Anthony Ocegueda broke the program’s 3,000-meter record and freshman jumper Alex Lawrence posted a school record in the pole vault Saturday to headline victories in seven events during Utah Valley track and field’s season-opener at the Weber State Winter Open.
In his first career indoor 3,000-meter race, Ocegueda won his first career 3,000-meter race with a program-best time of 8:19.31 to best former Wolverine Jason Lynch’s previous record (8:19.56) in 2016. Meanwhile, Lawrence recorded a pole vault of 5.00 meters in his indoor debut to notch his first career victory, topping the old school record (4.80m) set by former UVU jumper Matt Williams in the 2012 indoor season.
