Vault in the Ville pole-vaulting competition returns to 4th Street Live

4th Street Live will be the site of a different kind of bar hopping Saturday night.

The second annual Vault in the Ville — a pole-vaulting competition featuring top professional athletes from around the country — will take place right in the thick of the dining and entertainment complex.

The pros will compete from 6-9 p.m. There also will be a high school competition from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a “masters” competition from 1-4.

The event, sponsored in part by the Louisville Sports Commission, will benefit the Louisville Youth Training Center.

Among the men’s professional competitors is St. Xavier High School alum Chip Heuser, who helped create Vault in the Ville. He was the 2007 NCAA runner-up while at the University of Oklahoma.

Four-time Indiana University All-American Jeff Coover, who was third at this year’s national indoor meet, also will compete. So will Mark Hollis, a two-time national champion who has vaulted a personal best of 18 feet, 10 inches.

The women’s competitors include 2012 Olympian Becky Holiday, world top-20 vaulter Mary Saxer, Megan Zimlich (Ballard High School product and currently at Arkansas), Vera Neuenswander (IU product) and Andrea Sabatini (University of Louisville product).
