In the where are they now department, the area’s all-time pole vault leader Jamison Whiting has been teaching for 16 years in California.
Whiting grew up in Salem and starred at Central Catholic with a best of 14-0 in 1995. He had a great career at UNH with a best of 17-2.75 and surpassed that post-UNH with a 17-6.75 in Reno, Nevada, in 2002.
That mark still stands although Harvard’s superb sophomore Erick Duffy of North Andover (17-3.5) may be poised to pass him.
He said, “I know all about that stud from North Andover. Brenner Abbott, the jumps coach at Harvard, is one of my best friends and has been gushing about this kid for years!
