Region 7 is one of the largest TAAF regions with 2,024 competitors and is allowed the top six finishers in each event to advance to the 2013 State Games of Texas in Corpus Christi on July 25-28.
LakePointe qualified 18 vaulters to state, even though several will compete in the USATF Junior Olympic Championships in Greensboro, N.C. during the same week.
The girls 18-and-under class had the top three finishers, with Natalie Hawthorne first (11-09), Tiffany James second (11-00) and Sarah Schneider third (9-06).
Kaylee Hinton (11-00), Elizabeth Oberle (9-00), Abigail Tucker (8-00) and Julia Watson (8-00) swept the top four positions in the 16-and-under division.
Sarah Graves (8-00), Savanah McKenzie (8-00), Zoe Elledge (7-06) and Rachel Hyvl (6-06) also swept the girls 14-and-under division.
Michael Weisser (12-00) won the 18-and-under boys class, Clark Norris (10-06) and Matt Graves (9-06) finished first and second in the 16-and-under division and Noah Sewell (11-00), Caleb Estes (9-00), Cole McCrary (8-06) and Chase Howerton (8-00) finished 1-4 in the 14-and-under division.
Gaines Kinsey also finished second in the 800 meters (1:59.88), Oberle came in fifth in the triple jump (32-03), Schneider finished third in the high jump (4-10) and Kaitlyn Stark claimed fifth place in both the 3200 and 1600.
The Rockwall Mustangs qualified five individuals and one relay team in nine events for the state games.
Kajol Maheshwari captured two silver medals, with a second place in the girls 16-and-under 3200 (13:06.18) and a runner-up finish in the 1600 (5:55.69).
Mie Pighee came in second in the girls 18-and-under shot put (32-04 1/4) and added a state-qualifying sixth place in the discus (67-01). Lauren Torgerson placed third in the 10-and-under 1600 (6:35.37) and Jacob Torgerson claimed second in the boys 14-and-under 1600 (5:26.40) and fourth in the 3200 (12:01.67).
