CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Mark Vetere (Andover, Mass.) was named Patriot League M-F Field Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the conference on Monday, for his outstanding performance in the pole vault at the Navy Invitational.
Vetere picked up from where he left off last season, placing first in the pole vault with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 16ft-8.75 in (5.10m). The senior led three other Midshipmen, who also recorded IC4A-qualifying performances at the Navy Invite.
The Andover, Massachusetts native carried over a successful junior season in which he placed first at eight meets in the pole vault. Vetere set a new Navy record in the indoor season with a mark of 17ft-1.75in (5.23m) at the Army-Navy dual meet, which was previously set by Matthew Poirer in 1999. Vetere’s mark stood for three weeks before teammate Jiles Maness broke the record by one inch (17ft-2.75in; 5.25m) at the Patriot League Championship.
Navy will have a month to prepare before its dual meet at Princeton on Jan. 5 in Princeton, New Jersey.
