Victor Zimmerman takes home first in the pole vault

The 2016 state track meet officially started Thursday, and the Sterling Tigers had themselves quite a day. The Tigers had five players on the medal podium on day one of the three-day event.

Victor Zimmerman, the defending 3A state champion in the pole vault event, will once again call himself champion. Zimmerman captured the state title with a mark of 14-06.00. Austin Chavez came in fourth in the same event with a mark of 12-09.00. Brady Krier made it three’s company with a fifth place finish and a mark of 12-00.00.

Kylie Chavez tied for second in the high jump. Chavez jumped a 5-02.00.

Krier finished fourth in the triple jump, with a jump of 42-08.50. Austin Chavez finished sixth in the same event with a jump of 42-03.25. Jayson Frank finished 14th with a jump of 40-09.00.

The girls’ 800 sprint medley team advanced to the finals. The girls 4×200 relay team also advanced to the finals.

Isaac Harris advanced to the finals in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.09.
