Walker, Smith headline 5th annual Last Chance Gulf Pole Vault Festival

HELENA – The fifth annual Last Chance Gulf Pole Vault Festival took place in the Women’s Park on July 23.

Fifty competitors ranging from ages 13 through 44 graced the platform in search of new personal bests.

American pole vault record holder Brad Walker cleared 17 feet using a pole unfamiliar to him. Helena High alum Chase Smith cleared 16 feet 6 inches.

The festival completed a two-day event. On July 22, the competitors prepared for the competition at Hurford’s house and received coach tips from Walker.
