Hannah Togami set a new Wando school record with the second-highest pole vault in the state this season at the 11th annual Cane Bay Invitational Saturday in Summerville.
The eighth-grader sprung to a new personal best of 12 feet, 1 inch, winning the event by 13 inches. She flew seven inches higher than her previous best, set a week prior at the Coaches Classic.
Togami’s vault is the highest of any eighth-grader in the nation this season and tied for the 12th best of any in South Carolina over the past 20 years. It would’ve won last year’s Class AAAAA state championship by an inch. Only Bishop England sophomore Grace Hotchkiss’ vault of 12-07 ranks ahead of it in the state this season.
