West Aussie teen Sasha Zhoya leaps into record books with pole vault effort

Here is the sky-scraping moment today when WA pole vaulter Sasha Zhoya leapt into the world record books.

Zhoya, whose mother Catherine was once an elite French snow skier, jumped 5.56m in the men’s pole vault on day one of the Australian Track & Field Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

No under-18 pole vaulter has ever jumped higher, with the mark eclipsing Greek athlete Emmanouilt Karali’s 2016 world record leap of 5.55m.
