Weston’s Emily Savage wins national pole vault championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Weston’s Emily Savage won the New Balance National High School Outdoor Track and Field pole vault championship on Saturday.

She was the only vaulter to clear the height of 12 feet, 10 3/4 inches to claim the championship.

Savage had cleared her first three jumps in just three attempts, soaring over 11-5, 11-10, and 12-2 with ease.

She missed her first two jumps at 12-6 3/4, however, putting pressure on herself to clear the third jump, which she did with ease.

Savage then cleared 12-10 3/4 on her first attempt. She was the only vaulter to clear the height.

She missed three times trying to clear 13-3.

A more complete story will be posted later tonight.
