The Utah Valley University men’s and women’s track & field teams completed a solid weekend in Southern California on Saturday. UVU competed at both the Oxy Distance Carnival at Occidental College on Friday as well as Cal State Fullerton’s Ben Brown Invitational on both Friday and Saturday.
Senior distance runner Brooke Hodson-Davies had a big weekend as she not only won the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Oxy Distance Carnival on Friday but also placed third in 1500m title on Saturday at the Ben Brown Invite. Hodson-Davies, who qualified for the NCAA’s in the steeplechase a year ago, recorded a personal record in the 3000m steeplechase as she finished 35 seconds ahead of everyone else with a time of 10:27.98. Her time of 10:27.98 is 2.53 seconds faster ahead of her NCAA qualifying time from last year. Hodson-Davies then continued her stellar weekend by running a 4:40.50 in the 1500m run on Saturday for a third-place finish at Cal State Fullerton.
Freshman Bennie Foster also had an outstanding meet on Saturday as she set a new school record in the women’s pole vault by clearing 3.40m (11′-01.75′). Her vault was good enough to take second in the event.
The women’s squad also had stellar performances from Savannah Heywood and Aisha Graham at the Oxy Distance Carnival as they placed second (2:13.55) and fourth (2:14.08), respectively, the 800m run on Friday night as well as Ivie Gonsalves as she took third in the 5000 with a time of 17:08.64. Gonsalves’ 17:08.64 is good enough to now rank her third all-time at Utah Valley in the 5000m run.
