World record-holder Renaud Lavillenie commits to the Prefontaine Classic pole vault

Renaud Lavillenie, who holds the world record in the pole vault, will compete in this year’s Prefontaine Classic, meet organizers announced on Monday.

The 27-year-old from France set the world record of 20 feet 2 1/2 in February.

Lavillenie has been the world’s No. 1-ranked vaulter since 2010, and holds the 2012 Olympic gold medal.

The announced field also includes reigning world champion Raphael Holzdeppe and Pre Classic record-holder Brad Walker.

This year’s Prefontaine Classic will be contested May 30-31 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
