Wynford freshman wins

TIFFIN — Wynford freshman Corri Ruffener became the first girl pole vaulter in school history to advance to the state meet Friday during the Division III regional track and field championships at Tiffin Columbian.

Ruffener finished first with a personal best vault of 10 feet, 3 inches. After clearing 9 feet, 9 inches on her last attempt, she easily cleared both 10 feet and 10 feet, 3 inches for the win.

“In my head I was thinking, there are three girls at 9 feet, 9 inches and all of us were clean, so as long as I made it, I was for sure going to state, so I was like, ‘This is it.’ I was just so happy.”

Colonel Crawford sophomore Alex Carter missed out on a trip to state after falling to Lakota’s Makayla Kiser on a jump off for fourth place.
