Young pole vaulters working on their craft

Saturday, young pole vaulters were getting work in at UT’s Tom Black Track. It was one of 6-7 summer competitions put together by Olympic gold medalist Tim Mack.

Mack runs the Tim Mack Pole Vault Club out of the Johnny Long Training Academy. Mack works with pole vaulters from age 10 to master vaulters in their 50s.

“I love it,” said Mack. “I love passing it on. Sometimes, I don’t know if they’re too happy about it, because I’m very passionate about it and sometimes I’m very intense about it. I just make sure they know it’s very important to me that they do things right and they do things a certain way, so then they’re safe and they can vault as high as they want.”
