Yukon’s Kyla Davis ties for 2nd in pole vault at AAU Junior Olympic Games

After a record-setting performance in the Class 6A state meet, Yukon’s Kyla Davis continues to impress on a national stage.

The talented junior pole vaulter finished tied for second Wednesday in the 15-16 girls division at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Greensboro, North Carolina. Davis and two other competitors cleared 11 feet, 9 3/4 inches. The trio went to the jump off, and only Alyssa Quinones-Mixon was able to clear the bar, resulting in her victory.

Davis shattered the old Class 6A state meet record in May, clearing 12-9, besting the old mark by nine inches. She’s only four inches off the overall state record of 13-1, which Plainview’s Danielle Nowell set in 2010.
