LOCK HAVEN — After finishing up her final attempts in the pole vault, Hailey Zurich quickly gave a hug to her mom and went right for her phone. She couldn’t wait to tell her friend Katie Jones she had just hit a personal best in the event.
The Loyalsock senior also couldn’t wait to tell Jones, now a sophomore at Penn State, she had broken Jones’ meet record in the process. Zurich’s best vault of 12 feet, 3 inches Monday established a personal best and broke the Bald Eagle Invitational record Jones set in 2016.
The pole vault win was one of three individual wins for Zurich on Monday, as she also won the long jump and 100. Zurich was one of five Loyalsock athletes to win an individual event. And she also was on the winning 400 relay team. The six wins for Loyalsock led the Lancers to the team title with 182 points. Warrior Run was second with 143 points.
